The falling stars make the snub-nosed up for young and old, make us dream and make us think of fairies, desires and magic.
Actually this beautiful show that the sky gives us is called a meteor shower and it happens what the earth, during its orbital motion around the sun, crosses the orbit of a comet that has left a trail of debris. These small fragments of rock, coming into contact with the atmosphere, burn leaving trails of light, which we see as falling stars.
The most famous swarms are the Leonids, the Geminids, the Quadrantids and the Perseids (those visible in particular on the nights of San Lorenzo between 12th and 13th August).
We must not forget to give our shooting star a wish that will almost certainly come true. In fact for the ancient sailors the observation of the skies was fundamental for a sure route, for christianity it was just San Lorenzo, in the pain of martyrdom, to ask that a wish be fulfilled for every shooting star. For this reason the Perseids are known as tears of San Lorenzo.
Beyond the myths, legends and science, we hope you can admire the sky full of falling stars in a place you love. We will do it from the beautiful courtyard of the Masseria Fano enjoying a glass of wine with our guests.
We remind you that, as every year, in September there will be the harvest of our Negroamaro vines and in October the olive harvest will follow. We will keep you updated on our future appointments.
