The so-called “tears” of San Lorenzo will return in August: here’s how to lose even one!
More than an astronomical phenomenon, a tradition: the true rain of falling stars, corresponding to a meteorite swarm of Perseids, have peaked on August 12 and 13.
On that date the meteorite group again touches the Earth, giving its inhabitants the marvelous and sophisticated bright skies.
Unfortunately, for the toughest to follow the vision of this night-time performance, it will not be easy.
The best time is in fact around two in the morning.
The best direction to look at is northeast, but it is not an indication to take in the letter: the important thing is to be able to enjoy a slice of sky far from sources of light pollution, preferably in the lawn behind the Masseria.
According to a ZEN (Zenithal Hourly Rate) calculation, for 2017 the Perseid ZHR is estimated to be over 100, so it is possible to observe an average of 100 meteors per hour.
The ideal state of the moon, the main source of luminous enemy of observation of the same, is that of the new moon.
On August 13 the moon will be close to the last quarter (August 15), so not optimal but not bad either.
Better to cover: It is true that we are in August, but moisture and breeze will make you feel, especially lying in the middle of a meadow.
Do not forget about mosquito protection (not many, but still present).
Tradition means that if you see a falling star, you can express a wish.
So relax and enjoy the show.
In fact, all the busy work for this night will be rewarded also and only by the simple pleasure of having witnessed a fascinating astronomical phenomenon, all in addition to the Masseria del Fano!
